Haneefa experienced a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy requiring emergency surgery. The fetus had grown in her fallopian tube for three months before bursting through, causing massive internal bleeding that required over 7 pints of blood to stabilize her. She was in and out of consciousness before surgery.
During the experience, she found herself floating near the ceiling of the hospital room, looking down at the doctor who was leaning over her body, shaking her and calling her name. She had gradually faded away feeling weaker until she relaxed as if going to sleep while remaining aware. The physical pain in her belly and headache completely disappeared. In the darkness that followed, she experienced an incredible sense of peace, love, and acceptance that was overwhelming and unlike anything she had felt before. The most significant veridical observation was her out-of-body perspective from the ceiling, watching the doctor trying to revive her body below. She clearly observed the medical personnel's actions and distress from this elevated vantage point. Upon awakening, she heard a repetitive message in her mind asking "What have I been doing with my life?" She also experienced visions during her recovery that later came true, including a frightening scene where she was being chased. Following the NDE, she experienced profound life changes including loss of materialism, enhanced psychic abilities, and a complete transformation from shy to social. The experience left her with precognitive abilities, telepathy, and animal communication skills. She wasn't told she had died until much later, discovering the NDE literature eight years afterward.
