Violet experienced a drowning incident in a swimming pool during the 1990s when she was 6-7 years old. While swimming at her great aunt and uncle's pool, she slipped off a float and sank underwater. After initial panic, she became extremely calm as time seemed to stop. The pool transformed into a different underwater environment with trees and landscape visible in the background. A lady in white floated above her, surrounded by bright beams of light coming from the sky - one large beam and several smaller ones. Initially everything was quiet, then sounds became loud with yelling, screaming, and underwater noises. Her cousin swam over her and somehow Violet grabbed her waist and was pulled from the pool. She coughed up water but didn't require hospitalization. During the experience, she felt calm, peaceful, comfortable, and a sense of belonging she had never felt before or since. The vivid nature of the experience convinced her it was real, especially given her self-described lack of imagination and inability to daydream or visualize. She had other near-death experiences from drug overdoses that were completely different, more like nightmares cutting to black nothingness.
