Vicki experienced a life-threatening hemorrhage following a hysterectomy in 1998. After the surgery, she began bleeding internally and her blood pressure dropped critically low, requiring emergency intervention. Medical staff administered four pints of blood simultaneously through both arms and jugular veins to stabilize her condition, while surgeons performed emergency surgery to locate and stop the internal bleeding. During this critical period, Vicki found herself observing the scene from above the operating table, watching the medical team frantically working to save her life. She describes being in a viewing area above the operating room, watching doctors operate on her body below. Upon awakening, she had a large bandage on her abdomen and her face was severely swollen. Family and friends had gathered, believing she was dying. Though the experience was brief, Vicki maintains clear memories of the out-of-body perspective during the emergency surgery. She reports feeling peaceful during the experience despite the medical crisis occurring to her physical body.
