At a pool party, young Toni was drowning in the deep end when two teammates who couldn't swim used her to stay afloat, one choking her in a hold while the other pushed her head underwater. Her father, a trained EMT and lifeguard, rescued her and performed CPR as she had no pulse and wasn't breathing. During this clinical death, Toni found herself beside her father watching him perform CPR, screaming "I am right here!" but he couldn't hear her. She saw a mysterious woman with long black hair dressed in flowing black at the tree line who moved progressively closer. Something told Toni this wasn't right, and as the woman sprinted toward her, she screamed and turned away as a blinding bright light shone on her. She woke up coughing water with a bleeding nose. For weeks afterward, she had nightmares about the dark woman saying she would get what was rightfully hers, ending with bright light and nosebleeds, until the dreams stopped when she was eight. The experience led to lasting psychic abilities.
