David, 46, underwent cardiac bypass surgery due to hereditary heart problems. During surgery, his heart was stopped for grafting. He experienced terrible deafness and darkness before floating out of his body, seeing the medical team working on him. He floated up near the ceiling, then saw his deceased father and grandfather at the end of a long hallway. They appeared as he remembered them but did not acknowledge him. A man emerged who identified himself as David's brother who had died in infancy - unknown to David until his mother confirmed it. The brother explained this was a place for those who died young to experience life they missed. David was told it wasn't his time and he would return. He had no memories of loved ones during the experience, felt no pain or emotions except initial confusion.
