Gloria attempted suicide by shooting herself in 1964. After losing consciousness, she experienced traveling through a tunnel and arriving in a beautiful garden. She walked with an extraordinarily beautiful man who counseled her without making her feel guilty about the suicide attempt. He spoke to her as if she had made an unimportant mistake and offered guidance. Gloria felt he was far too good and intelligent to be interested in her, yet he showed deep compassion.
She was then directed to join a group of young women dressed in white in a park-like setting with gentle breezes, bright sunshine, grass, plants, and birds. She sat on the grass with the women, communicating through their spirits without words, experiencing great peace and happiness beyond earthly description. However, beside her was a hole or well. A force began pulling her toward it, and despite holding onto the rim with all her strength, she was pulled down. The women simply waved goodbye rather than helping her, despite her pleas. She was pulled back through the tunnel until she opened her eyes in this world, feeling cold and screaming that she wanted to return. The experience included seeing scenes from her life, though she doesn't remember details. She believes she received special knowledge engraved in her soul about the purpose of life. Afterward, she experienced another supernatural encounter at age 26 with beings of intense brightness that led her to join the Mormon church. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experience contains several elements consistent with biblical accounts including travel through a tunnel or pathway, encountering a compassionate being who could represent an angel or divine messenger, being in a paradise-like garden setting reminiscent of biblical descriptions of heaven, experiencing perfect peace and joy, receiving counsel and life review, and being sent back to earthly life with a purpose. The supernatural brightness and beings she encountered later align with biblical descriptions of angelic encounters. Unbiblical elements: The experience contains concerning elements including no mention of God, Jesus, or explicit divine judgment despite the suicide attempt. The counseling figure minimized the gravity of suicide, treating it as an "unimportant mistake" rather than addressing its moral significance. Her later conversion to Mormonism and the concept of becoming an angel herself contradicts orthodox Christian theology. The lack of any conviction of sin or need for redemption is problematic from a biblical perspective.
