Susan underwent an emergency C-section for her third child in 2003. After successfully delivering her son and beginning to breastfeed in recovery, she noticed gray dimming around her vision edges and alerted the nurse to very low blood pressure. She was rushed back to surgery for internal bleeding. During the medical crisis, Susan found herself in what she thought was a dream-like state, standing in a large field of tall grass with flowers surrounded by a circle of trees. She heard tribal drumming that seemed to call her, and she walked through the field trying to find its source but never locating it before returning to her body. The doctor later confirmed she had died on the operating table when they reopened her stomach and blood poured out, telling her with tears in his eyes that she had died. Susan experienced only the beautiful field and drumming without seeing other people or having life reviews. She notes having had other unusual experiences throughout her lifetime and is currently undergoing chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma diagnosed in December 2023, where she experienced seeing the word "Mother" in "Chemotherapy" as a healing sign.
