On November 19, 1988, Sharene E experienced a catastrophic vehicle accident when a red F-150 truck traveling at 98 MPH in a 25 MPH zone became airborne after hitting a parked car and struck her as she stood by her vehicle. The impact crushed her between the truck and her car, breaking ribs and folding her body backwards. During this trauma, she left her body and found herself walking on the street, bathed in beautiful blue light. After four steps, she heard her name called and saw a tunnel entrance with her deceased skating coach who had died when she was 16, standing alongside her maternal grandmother whom she had never met. She then noticed her body on the ground and experienced "waving ribbons" of colored lights at knee-height that contained love, peace, and joy. Realizing her body was "still viable," she asked God (whom she felt looking over her right shoulder) to decide for her. God said "Go back," and she agreed. Upon returning, she experienced severe pain and had tunnel vision. The blue light phenomenon was independently witnessed by the responding paramedic, who had never visited an accident scene before in his 10-year career but returned the next morning because he had experienced "the manifest presence of God" in the light. He confirmed seeing the blue light with no obvious source and revealed she had been mistakenly treated as indigent at the hospital. This divine encounter transformed her from lukewarm faith to committed Christianity, though it took 35 years to fully process the spiritual implications.
