Sean O experienced a near-death event on November 4, 2009, while ill with swine flu. At approximately 2:00 AM, while in bed, he entered a very dark room and heard a door slam shut behind him. He saw a bright vertical light stretching from ground to beyond sight, took two steps toward it, and landed on a small platform that shot him upward at lightning speed. The platform stopped at the top in pitch darkness, where he saw a bright white stage 20-30 feet away. On the stage stood his deceased father at the front and his deceased cousin Colin slightly behind and to the left. Colin had a distinctive dark, straggly beard from jawline down that Sean had never seen him have while alive. An elderly woman built into the wall at the back of the stage was clearly in charge, monitoring everything. Only his father spoke, delivering an urgent message: "If you want to see Colleen and those boys again, you better go straight back down. You better start breathing and you better start fighting!" Sean immediately began falling, and as he looked up, his father reached over saying "We'll still be here if you need us." He landed back in bed with a thud, took a deep breath, and found himself in fetal position without his CPAP machine. His wife drove him to the hospital where he spent 5 days in ICU with doctors initially doubtful of his survival. The experience provided Sean with confirmation of an afterlife and the continued presence of deceased loved ones.
