Richie had a seizure disorder and on October 22, 2023, experienced a seizure after his grandmother's birthday party. He fell and hit his head on the sidewalk corner, causing a concussion and vomiting. He inhaled his vomit and went into cardiac arrest. A paramedic performed CPR until emergency services arrived. During the cardiac arrest, Richie observed everything from above his body, watching his mother crying and seeing himself being loaded into the ambulance. He witnessed the medical team using defibrillator paddles on him twice. While floating above his body, he encountered his grandmother's ex-boyfriend who had died a year earlier. The deceased man was smoking a cigarette and told him, "You got and are going to have a full life ahead of you kid. Your family is going to need you, especially now." Richie felt a floating sensation with no pain, happiness, and warmth beaming down on him. He woke up three days later in the hospital with memory issues but recovered relatively quickly. His grandmother passed away two months later on December 20, 2023, which seemed to validate the message he received.
