At age 4 in 1954, Daniel G experienced a severe accident when a garbage truck backed into a power pole that fell on his legs, breaking both ankles. The live wire struck his left shoulder, electrocuting him and setting his clothes on fire, leaving a permanent black tattoo mark. His perspective suddenly changed like a slide projector advancing - first looking through his eyes, then viewing himself from above. Floating without pain or discomfort, he saw himself pinned beneath the pole with wires around him and smoke in the air, recognizing himself clearly from above. Time seemed to slow as he drifted along, observing everything. He watched the garbage truck driver lift the pole off him, carry him into the grocery store, and place him in a janitor's sink to extinguish the fire. The shock of cold water changed his perspective back like advancing to the next slide. He returned to his body, experiencing intense pain and shock, waking later in the hospital with casts on both legs and shoulder bandages. Recovery took 6 months. The experience left such a lasting impression that he never forgot it, and afterward began painting and drawing abstract pictures. Years later, reading about out-of-body experiences validated what he had experienced.
