In 1982, Claudio D was involved in a car accident with three friends when excessive speed caused them to hit a tree. He was in the rear left seat but was thrown onto the front dashboard and lost consciousness for approximately 45-50 minutes. During this time, he experienced no pain and saw a very white light that wasn't dazzling, feeling he was in a state of grace. The light appeared to come through a tunnel, very bright but not blinding, with a bright center that spread to the periphery. He felt light as if floating in the void, immersed in peace, tranquility, and wonderful well-being - sensations he has never felt again. He heard voices of people he recognized but didn't respond because he was so relaxed and wanted to stay in that peaceful state. Everything seemed timeless with no awareness of time passing. When he awoke, he was diagnosed with a severe concussion and took 6-7 days in the hospital to walk again without losing balance. He had no memory of how he returned or who he became when waking. The experience left him feeling that reality was more than just physical existence.
