On March 28, 2005, Candace went to the hospital for labor induction and required emergency C-section when her son experienced heart deceleration from the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. After failed epidural, a spinal block went wrong, paralyzing her lungs. She couldn't breathe, speak, or alert staff, going in and out of consciousness until they realized the problem and administered general anesthesia with intubation.
During the experience, Candace left her body and saw the nurse with her son and father in the recovery room. She was instantly transported to an endless place of beautiful light everywhere. Her first thought was "I'm home!" - a familiar, peaceful, loving place she had searched for her entire life. She existed as a sphere of energy without a body but aware of being herself. She knew she had a choice to stay or go, understanding she wasn't done with earthly life and needed to complete her life's purpose, though uncertain what it was. She felt her loved ones wanted to share this sacred space but stayed away to avoid swaying her decision. The love she felt was unlike anything in earthly life but very familiar in that realm. She awoke to machines alarming and the nurse over her. Initially dismissing it as medication effects, she later recognized it as a genuine NDE after seeing similar accounts. The experience transformed her from anger at God to definite belief, changing from Catholicism to general spirituality, and eliminating grief for deceased loved ones knowing where they go.
