On June 19, 2012, Bevery gave blood at her church's bloodmobile with a blood pressure of 89/50. After donating, she had only a Coke as no gluten-free snacks were available, chatted briefly with a friend, then drove home. At 4:42 PM while working at her computer, she felt sick. Lying down increased her nausea, so she sat on the toilet. The second she leaned forward, she passed out and apparently hit her head on the shower ceramic near the floor. She was unconscious for approximately 20 minutes, from about 4:45 to 5:05 PM, and suffered head trauma causing long-lasting dizziness and memory problems.
During her unconscious period, Bevery "woke up" to hearing children playing with delightful squeals of laughter and pure joy. The peace surrounding this experience was incredible and unlike anything she had experienced before. Though she couldn't see the children, she could plainly hear them. They began talking to her saying "Come play! Come play!" with sheer joy, encouraging her to join them. She told them "No, I can't. I've got to get back to work." There was bright daylight obscuring her view of the children, seeming to come from somewhere in front of her, with possible structures like rocks or a slide present. The primary observation was the auditory experience of multiple joyful children playing and inviting her to join them, accompanied by overwhelming peace and joy. The bright light prevented visual confirmation of the children's appearance, but their voices were clear and filled with extraordinary happiness. She came to face down in an awkward position in the bedroom, not remembering how she got there from the bathroom. Her husband called around 5:05 PM. Afterward, her left hand wanted to be dominant despite being right-handed, and she felt compelled to let it write in her Bible journal. The experience convinced her there is a better place of pure joy, peace and love. She wonders if the children might be aborted babies or those who died in infancy, which could offer comfort to grieving parents. Twelve years later, the experience remains vivid and she feels blessed to have experienced God's great love and peace.
