On November 6, 1995, Betty experienced eclampsia during childbirth of fraternal twin girls, requiring emergency cesarean section. She hemorrhaged severely and bled out, requiring a return to surgery to find and stop the bleeding. Her sister, a retired RN, administered CPR until hospital personnel took over and rushed her back to the operating room. She received multiple blood transfusions to save her life during the procedure to stop the hemorrhage. She had suffered five months of complete bed rest due to pre-eclampsia and severe pregnancy complications including unbearable 24/7 full-body itching from one baby lying on her spleen.
During her clinical death, Betty found herself in a very peaceful place with no lights or colors visible, perhaps darkness, but experienced the most profound peace beyond description. She was in the direct presence of Lord Jesus Christ, who was speaking to her through automatic knowing rather than audible voice, though she recognized it as His voice. The peace was indescribable - no pain, no suffering, a complete contrast to her months of agony. Jesus asked her if she wanted to go home or stay. While in His arms feeling peace that surpasses all understanding, she replied "Not my will, Lord, but Yours. I want to see my babies and Amanda (my oldest daughter) needs me." She was immediately brought back to life, feeling suffering and pain as if every bone was broken, with life-saving medical devices throughout her body. She initially wanted to return to the Lord's presence due to the pain, but survived and eventually met her twin daughters. Though she didn't see heaven's lights or deceased loved ones, being in Christ's realm of peace and perfection was enough to remove all fear of death. The experience verified her Christian faith completely. Twenty-eight years later, she holds onto that time in the Lord's presence, knowing heaven is real and awaits her. She remains a conservative Baptist Christian, more convinced than ever that Jesus Christ is real and has the power to grant requests to return to earthly life for His purposes.
