Anita experienced a life-threatening hemorrhage after giving birth to twins in August 1993. A large undetected bleed occurred at birth, and by the time it was discovered, she was already in rigors and was rushed to surgery. During the surgical preparation, she was strapped to a T-bar with monitors alarming, causing distress among medical personnel.
As she began losing consciousness, a voice came into her head saying "This is when I leave, this is when I die." She then looked up to the ceiling where many faces appeared, 4-5 people deep, though she recognized none of them. These beings projected overwhelming love, kindness, and compassion toward her. She felt herself being drawn upward toward them as if toward her true home of unconditional love. Simultaneously, the sounds of the surgery room became quieter and physical sensations moved to the periphery of her consciousness. She was aware of a thread from her mid-lumbar area connecting her to her body below, which became thinner as she moved upward. All existence seemed permeated with magnetic love drawing her toward these beings. During the experience, she noticed a male figure with more substantiality than the others - he had blond thick curly hair, a blonde beard, bright loving eyes, and a chunky, huggable body visible from the waist up. She telepathically appealed to him, explaining she had just given birth to twin girls and must remain on Earth to raise them, though she would gladly come another time when they were grown. She expressed great sadness at this decision but knew it was right. The gentle loving man gave the slightest acknowledgment with his smiling warm eyes, and she immediately felt herself descending gently back to her body. She then heard all the noises again - the machines and urgent chatter within the operating theater. The experience profoundly changed her spiritual understanding, leading her eventually to non-duality teachings. She experienced pure unbounded awareness separate from the physical body and understood that consciousness continues beyond bodily existence.
