A Buddhist man experienced clinical death on Christmas Day 2023 while eating Thai food with his wife at his shop. Two days prior, he had seen someone walking in his peripheral vision in a dark hallway, which his wife dismissed. On December 25th, feeling tired but without pain, he stood up, walked to the front of his shop and road, then returned to continue eating. As he sat down, he watched his head drop and lost consciousness from choking on food. Security camera footage showed his eyes blinking though he wasn't in his body, customers gathering, and a doctor arriving to help before he was loaded into a pickup truck.
During his death state, he found himself in what others later identified as "the void" - pure darkness with a slight tinge of grey. He was aware of moving his eyes left and right but couldn't move his body, feeling trapped as if in a vise. His thoughts were different, describing himself as being just his thoughts without physical form. Confusingly, he didn't think about family during this state. In the distance, a small white speck appeared, approaching at great speed and growing larger. Though not brilliantly white, it was distinctly white light. As it neared, he heard an increasingly loud "Doom, doom, doom" sound that became deafening upon reaching him. With a sudden "bang, thump," he was forcefully thrown back into his body in the bed of the speeding pickup truck. A passing doctor had saved his life by pumping his heart and removing food from his throat after his heart and breathing had stopped and he had urinated on himself. All his muscles hurt upon return. An ambulance with flashing lights chased behind as they raced to the hospital. His guard dog, with whom he shared a close bond, had been running around confused at the moment his spirit left his body, suggesting the animal sensed his death 2-3 kilometers away. Despite being offered hospitalization with heart monitoring, he chose to return home to his air-conditioned bedroom since he had to pay for healthcare. The experience left him with a profound appreciation for being alive - sitting in KFC later with his wife, watching people pass in a shopping center, he turned to her and said "It's great to be alive!" - a feeling he'd never experienced before. He now uses the memory of being outside his body to help him fall asleep when having trouble resting. Though raised Catholic and later becoming a Buddhist monk in Asia, his religious views remained unchanged, but he gained certainty that "we do not die."
