On his cousin's 15th birthday, a young man experienced an unusual altered state of consciousness after being struck by a jeep while jaywalking near a Wendy's restaurant. Having stayed behind to pick up his uniform from the cleaners while friends went ahead for lunch, he attempted to cross the road where a minivan had stopped to let him pass. Unable to see the jeep behind the minivan, he was struck and knocked unconscious as he ran across.
During his unconscious state, he experienced a vivid and peculiar vision of being back in his first period English class at school. He saw himself sleeping with his head down on the desk and felt an urgent need to wake up to get to his next class. The classroom setting felt completely real - he could hear fellow students around him and genuinely believed he was still in his first period class and needed to wake up for the bell. This altered perception of reality was remarkably specific and detailed, creating a seamless alternate reality. When he regained consciousness, he found himself on the road with firemen asking for his parents' contact information. He was covered with a blanket as EMTs rushed to assist him. The transition from the classroom vision back to the accident scene was abrupt and disorienting. The experience left him with heightened alertness and the memory remains unusually vivid years later - he can recall it as if returning to that exact moment. Though he experienced no typical NDE elements like tunnels, lights, or deceased relatives, the incident created a lasting impact. He never shared the experience until completing this survey. He reported feeling calm during the experience with slightly heightened alertness, and memories of past events flashed before him. While his religious views remained unchanged (agnostic before and after), he noted slight life changes and feels the experience was definitely real.
