A passenger in a devastating high-speed car accident experienced a life review and dissociative state after the driver lost control while traveling at 109 mph on an icy street. The driver, distracted while reaching for something, veered left and struck a parked car almost head-on. Without a seatbelt, the passenger was violently thrown forward, saved from going through the windshield only by the car's roof. Following the initial impact and life review, she found herself mysteriously sitting in grass 10-20 feet behind the crashed vehicle, spitting up glass fragments and broken teeth. The experience included a profound disconnection from reality - when helped to a nearby house with its porch light on, she passed a floor-length mirror and did not recognize her own reflection. At the emergency room, doctors removed one to two dozen glass slivers from her face in a V-shaped pattern from hairline to chin, though they missed one that would work out years later.
