Tom, age 14, was on a state highway bike trip when both brake cables on his bicycle snapped while descending a steep hill. Unable to stop and passing cars traveling 50 mph, his front wheel began oscillating before he became airborne. He landed on his head, with a pickup truck missing his head by only inches. Tom floated out of his body and could see himself lying on the road, feeling alive and free. He observed the scene from above, seeing a bright light like the sun and beautiful landscape as if looking out an airplane window but larger.
Being pulled toward the light, Tom suddenly felt connected to a collective consciousness, knowing everything and understanding why everything was. He described it as having a veil lifted, becoming super intelligent. Reaching the light, he experienced unconditional love unlike anything before or since - no questions about religion or belief, just pure unconditional love. A female voice communicated telepathically: "You can stay or you can go back, if you decide to go back there are many things for you to do." Despite wanting to stay, Tom felt God had sent him to earth with purpose and chose to return. Upon re-entering his body, he immediately felt the head pain from hitting pavement, lost his super intelligence, and felt the weight of the physical world. His friend reported he was disoriented for less than a minute, though the experience felt like 30 minutes. The impact transformed his beliefs - previously doubting God's existence, he became certain after feeling the divine love. He believes God showed him through this NDE that He truly exists. Tom didn't share the experience for 50 years. He now has no fear of death, tries to be kinder to others, and shares his experience with dying friends to provide comfort and perspective.
