Tilda, a cardiovascular surgery and ICU nurse, was enjoying a spa night with her best friend for Mother's Day. During a chair massage, she experienced sudden nausea. After the masseuse brought her a cold towel, she put her head down to continue but suddenly found herself in a completely different realm. Like a light switch being flipped, she was in a park-like setting with green rolling hills and trees, all engulfed in a pervasive blue light that was very peaceful. She felt wonderful with no pain, very comfortable and calm, and could feel herself smiling.
At the top of a hill, she saw her deceased father waving to her, along with her two deceased dogs running toward her. She began walking quickly toward them, feeling extremely happy. As she got closer, someone behind her began calling her name, becoming louder and more frantic. Initially ignoring the voice, she eventually became irritated and stopped, saying "WHAT?" Her eyes opened to find herself sitting back with her head supported by her friend, who was crying and holding her jaw open so she could breathe. Her friend, also a cardiovascular surgery and ICU nurse with experience with dying patients, believed Tilda had died. Her lips were completely blue, face dusky, and she was completely limp and unresponsive. Tilda was taken to the hospital for multiple tests, which showed no residual damage. The experience never recurred, but she can still vividly see the landscape and her father and dogs waiting for her. The experience taught her that "we really do not lose anyone - we will be reunited" and gave her certainty about life after death. She remarried after this experience and has been with her husband for over 20 years.
