At age 12, Sanne was cycling to school on a summer morning in a rural area. She saw a slow-moving blue car and thought she could cross before it reached her driveway, but failed to see a motorcycle passing the car. The impact was severe and she realized it was the end as everything went dark.
During the experience, she found herself flying through darkness toward something, thinking multiple simultaneous thoughts about being too young to die, wondering if she would see her grandfather, and not wanting to leave because her parents would be sad. She observed the motorcyclist on the other side of the road inspecting his dark green motorcycle. The experience felt peaceful and she could think multiple thoughts simultaneously with exceptional clarity. Time seemed not to exist during the event. She saw what appeared to be a tunnel-like darkness and felt incredible peace, feeling united with the world and understanding everything about the universe. The simultaneous nature of her thoughts and the clarity of her consciousness were remarkable features of the experience. After waking up about 9 meters from the road next to her house, she called for her mother. A doctor diagnosed her with severe concussion and scratches but she was otherwise fine. The memory remains crystal clear and never changes like other memories do, with all thoughts occurring simultaneously in a neatly ordered way she cannot replicate in normal consciousness.
