Heather was a child in 1980 when she experienced clinical death following open heart surgery. While in recovery, her heart stopped and she coded. She clearly left her body and observed the scene from outside herself, seeing her mother and father at her bedside crying and holding her hands as doctors rushed in to provide medical assistance and restart her heart. She heard the conversations between her parents and the medical staff, though she cannot recall the specific words now. After the doctors arrived, she turned around and saw a bright, unusually bright light behind her. She walked toward this light before losing consciousness. Her next memory was waking up in her hospital room. The experience remained vivid in her memory despite forgetting most of her childhood. Years later in high school, she mentioned the incident to her mother, who was shocked because she had never told anyone about the time Heather flatlined. This external confirmation validated her out-of-body observations during the cardiac arrest.
