Six-year-old Catherine was attending a pétanque competition with her family on Ascension Day 1969 when she was struck by a car while crossing the road. At the moment before impact, she experienced a strange silence and suspension in time, then lost consciousness after being hit. During her unconsciousness, she found herself bathed in soft, warm light with gentle music playing. She felt perfect well-being and no fear. A loving voice invited her to open a door that appeared before her. As she approached and began turning the handle, she glimpsed an even more powerful light-halo beyond. Just as she started pushing the door open, she heard her mother screaming and praying to the Virgin Mary to save her life. The soft voice seemed to give her a choice, and her mother's heartfelt cries persuaded her to return, though with great regret. Upon awakening, she required days of immobilization due to leg damage and risk of internal bleeding. The experience dramatically changed her personality from soft and pleasant to aggressive and angry, hampering her social life for years. In subsequent years, she experienced one OBE and two more calls to leave during sleep, each time choosing to stay for her son. Following her mother's death in 2022, she experienced a month of grace and plenitude. She continues to have contact with deceased loved ones through dreams.
