On May 18, 2022, Alan S experienced a heart attack while shopping at a mall. After breakfast, he went to a pharmacy for knee support but began feeling sweaty and hot, thinking he had food poisoning. He struggled to walk back to his car and barely made it home. His wife insisted they go to the hospital where he collapsed upon arrival. In the ambulance, Alan chatted with EMTs about thinking it was just something he ate, still unaware he was having a heart attack.
Alan's heart stopped twice during transport. During the first cardiac arrest, he found himself in an infinite room with no walls, containing rows of tables and chairs. Two or three people were present in a relaxed atmosphere, asking him questions about his life events in what felt like a "handover" or update session. He then woke in the ambulance. During the second cardiac arrest, he returned to the same location, but this time the entities looked surprised to see him back, as if they didn't expect him. They looked at each other and then at him for about two seconds before he was revived again. The second experience made Alan realize this wasn't a dream, especially because he returned to the exact same place. The repetition and the entities' surprise at his return convinced him the experience was real. He noted feeling calm throughout and having a sense of unity with the world. The main artery to his heart was 100% blocked. Alan emphasizes that only because of the second heart attack did he become fully aware and conscious of the events, feeling his eyes were open the entire time as he transitioned between the infinite room and the ambulance bed.
