Melinda underwent foot surgery with a local pain pump containing general anesthetic. Around 12 PM, she experienced an unexplained reaction to the anesthetic that spread throughout her body, causing a grand mal seizure followed by respiratory and cardiac arrest. She required defibrillation and intubation, remaining in ICU until 7 AM the next day with no memory of 9 hours before or 10 hours after the event.
During the arrest, she found herself in spirit form outside Earth in space and outside of time. She appeared translucent, able to pass through objects, maintaining adult female awareness but without knowledge of her name, marriage, or children. Time became meaningless - an instant was forever and forever was an instant. She experienced no physical sensations or pain, only overwhelming desperate need to return to time and Earth. The distressing realization that she could be trapped in this timeless state forever consumed her completely. She had no other thoughts or experiences except the desperate need to return to her body. Through sheer will, she began floating/flying from space back toward Earth, seeing herself getting closer before awareness ceased. The experience eliminated her previous frequent suicidal thoughts completely. She no longer wishes for death to end chronic pain, understanding that premature death might trap her in that timeless state. She believes she must complete her intended life purpose before moving to the proper afterlife.
