Maria suffered from inflamed liver that couldn't process red meat, causing frequent fainting spells. During one severe episode, she felt she stopped breathing and experienced what felt like death. She initially saw great darkness, then noticed an extraordinarily bright light in the background, brighter than sunlight, which she moved toward slowly.
Upon reaching the light, she found herself in a lush paradise garden with waist-high grass and flowers of all colors. She encountered her two deceased grandparents and a friend who had died years earlier, all smiling at her. Behind them stretched a huge mountain with beautiful waterfalls cascading into an impressive lake surrounded by happy people, some bathing naked, others in white clothing. The scene filled her with immense peace, making earthly life seem insignificant by comparison. Everything was a million times better than Earth, bringing feelings of extreme abundance and completeness with knowledge coming without words. When she approached her grandparents, her maternal grandfather extended his hand but told her "Not yet honey, you still have things to do." A black hand suddenly grabbed her shoulder pulling her backward as her grandparents said they would wait for her. She re-entered her body from above and woke breathing hard like someone who had been underwater without air for too long.
