Four-year-old ErinRae was at her babysitter's house across from a public swimming pool in summer 1987. While playing in the kiddie pool, she sat on the pool floor with eyes open underwater, watching other children play. She found herself unable to stand up despite trying to push herself up - she was stuck and began to panic. Her next memory was being above the pool, able to see herself and all the children in both pools and on the grass. She felt no physical pain and lost perception of time. Looking up, she saw the brightest light she had ever seen that didn't hurt to look at, with clouds swirling around it. She felt drawn toward the light and sensed something carrying her. As she tried to look behind her, a huge white wing lifted in front of the light. She believed this was an angel. She then woke up beside the pool with the lifeguard and babysitter performing CPR. The experience gave her certainty about life after death and made her more spiritual and intuitive throughout life. She felt peaceful during the experience, existing "in the fullest capacity that one can exist." When she later shared this with her church in her late 20s, they dismissed it as hallucination, leading her to eventually leave organized religion.
