Doug C, a bass player for country artist Merle Haggard, experienced severe dehydration after a long tour in 2012. At a casino, he became lightheaded while playing slots and stood up before falling backward onto concrete, hitting his head. He immediately left his body and floated in an ethereal space, hyper-aware of everything. He saw his body on the floor with his brother trying to wake him. His first thought was relief that life was over, amazed his sense of humor remained intact. He felt incredibly light with no cares, enveloped in pure love and acceptance from a presence that communicated "Don't worry, we've got ya." Time became irrelevant as he experienced instant communication where every thought was immediately answered. He felt connected to everything and wanted to stay in this state that felt overwhelmingly like home. When told he had to return because there was more to learn on Earth, he experienced flashes of past interactions where he could feel everyone's emotions. He understood how every action echoes forever in this realm. He was launched back through a dark tunnel into his body. Paramedics arrived and he spent the night hospitalized, later receiving a visit from Merle Haggard. The experience eliminated his fear of death and gave him absolute certainty about continuing consciousness after death.
