Dono experienced a severe seizure in the middle of the night in October 1991. Upon waking, he exhaled a horrific scream and felt himself exit his body with a "pop" and loud whooshing noise. He flew upward at incredible speed, observing his body lying still on the mattress below. He heard sounds like wild animals and arrived in a completely dark void where he had no form but could see all around him despite the blackness. He remained in this void briefly before rushing back into his body with a "thunk" while being transported in an ambulance. He then returned to the void again before waking up three days later in a hospital bed with no memory of the intervening time. The experience left him physically exhausted but without dramatic revelations. Dono had been born with congenital hepatitis and given only one year to live as a child, though he survived. The seizure episode occurred when he was an adult, and while the experience was relatively simple compared to others, it provided him with certainty about the existence of consciousness beyond the physical body.
