Thomas had metal removed from his eye in the emergency room in 2006. After the procedure, while sitting in a large chair with instructions to keep his head up, he passed out and instantly found himself in outer space. He could hear a swooshing noise and see stars against the blackness of space. A bright green line stretched as far as he could see in both directions. While wondering which direction to go, he slowly drifted left and soon encountered a tunnel. The green line covered the tunnel like a door, with yellowish light seeping out from behind it. He noted experiencing this without seeing any part of his body, including his nose. The doctor yelled at him to keep his head up, instantly bringing him back to his body. The experience felt completely real, with normal consciousness and alertness. Outer space appeared very clear and bright with vivid colors - the bright green line and yellowish tunnel light were particularly striking. He felt awe at what was happening and experienced relief and calmness. The experience confirmed his belief in an afterlife, as he felt just as alive out of his body as in it. He has shared the experience with others but was often met with skeptical looks. Prior knowledge of NDEs from television may have influenced his interpretation, but the vividness and reality of the experience remain undeniable to him.
