At age 4, Thomas had a severe bicycle accident when he looked back to wave at a school bus driver and veered off the sidewalk, falling face-first onto boulders. He sustained severe injuries including puncture wounds to his cheek, throat, and head, plus brain injuries. After the impact, he felt no pain and found himself floating upward, looking down at his body. Darkness began closing in around him as he floated toward a warm, bright light. He was stopped before reaching it and felt a presence - something that sounded neither male nor female but both - tell him gently but normally, "It's not your time, go back." He simply said "okay" and returned. He woke up in extreme pain with blood running down his face and managed to walk three houses to his home where he collapsed on the lawn calling for his mother. The ambulance had to administer an adrenaline shot and intubate him (he still has scars from the tube). He experienced amnesia for two years, not recognizing family and not speaking during that time. The experience left him feeling peaceful, relaxed, and happy during the NDE itself, with no fear. It made him search for a higher being throughout his life. Years later, at age 9 or 10, he was hit by a drunk driver but was miraculously unharmed despite damaging the car. He believes he was sent back for a purpose - that there were moments in life where his choices were significant and determined others' fates, suggesting lives would have been lost if he hadn't been there.
