Susan experienced cardiogenic shock after being given wrong medication and was told she died three separate times. During her first death experience, she found herself floating through a tunnel toward a light that was getting larger and brighter the closer she approached. She felt very relaxed and at peace during this journey. However, she became increasingly annoyed as a nurse kept calling out "Susan come back!" repeatedly. Though irritated at being disturbed from such a peaceful state, she listened and returned. Within 10 minutes, she had her second experience where she was looking down into the room from above, seeing herself on the bed surrounded by medical staff. She couldn't understand why she was looking down at herself with strangers around her. Throughout both experiences, she felt no alarm or fear, only incredible peace and happiness. The nurse's persistent calling brought her back against her will - she described feeling like she had never experienced such peace before and found the interruption very annoying. When she returned, medical staff confirmed they knew what was happening as they see it often, which is why the nurse was calling her back. The experience made her less critical of others and eliminated her concern about "what ifs" in life. She now knows death is nothing to be frightened of, having glimpsed the peace and comfort that awaits. Eight years later, she still remembers the experience as vividly as daily events.
