Jeff H experienced a near-death event during a severe car accident in the summer of 2004. While returning home with his best friend driving, their minivan was struck at high speed by a Mercedes at an intersection just after the light turned green. The impact hit the right rear quarter of their vehicle where Jeff was sitting as a passenger, resulting in a life-threatening collision that triggered his out-of-body experience.
Immediately upon impact, everything shifted to slow motion and became bathed in white light. Jeff could still see, but everything appeared in shades of bright, mystical white light. He felt the strong presence of an extremely loving and compassionate being, whom he strongly believed was Jesus, though he could not see this entity directly. During the collision, Jeff had a remarkable out-of-body experience where he observed his own head hitting the passenger side window and shattering the glass - a detail later confirmed when he verified the window was indeed broken. He felt no pain from this impact and sensed the being was somehow shielding him from the trauma. The being seemed to move from place to place, absorbing the impact as the car spun. Jeff then experienced a life review where he could see everything from his life simultaneously, like viewing multiple monitors at once. He had the distinct thought "Man... I wanted to do more this time" and felt he was meant to go to college, become an engineer, and help people somehow. This thought of having multiple lives felt completely normal and familiar, suggesting he had experienced this before, though he had never previously believed in reincarnation. Upon opening his eyes, he found himself sitting on the edge of the car seat with a couple standing about six feet away who comforted him, telling him he would be fine. When Jeff asked the paramedics about this kind couple, he was told no one had been standing there with him. He wonders if they were deceased family members. The experience left him with convictions about reincarnation, that death is just a transition, that we exist here to learn to love unconditionally, and that earthly life's purpose is for our souls to grow by temporarily forgetting our true nature.
