Jason W experienced a near-death experience on October 20, 2013, after being assaulted while skiing. The attack was severe enough that witnesses confirmed he appeared to be dead at the scene. The assault resulted in a direct head injury that proved life-threatening.
During the experience, Jason was thrust into a black void that felt profoundly peaceful and good. He had no physical body and lost all physical senses - no touch, smell, or taste. Despite this sensory absence, he could somehow feel an intense peaceful and joyful feeling permeating the endless black void. The emotional quality of the experience was entirely pleasant, with incredible peace and joy filling his consciousness. While in this void state, Jason had a moment of clarity where he thought, "Well this is nice, but I'm not ready yet." This thought was followed immediately by thinking of his parents. These thoughts seemed to trigger his return, as he then came back to his body and began breathing again in the physical world. He described having heightened consciousness and alertness during the experience, with thoughts moving faster than usual. Jason returned with a sense that an afterlife probably exists, though he gained no specific information about God, universal connection, or life's purpose. The experience did not include typical NDE elements like tunnels, beings, life review, or unearthly light - just the profound void experience. He continues to consider the experience definitely real and has not shared it with others. While raised as a Christian Protestant, his religious practices have not changed since the experience.
