Debra experienced a profound NDE during a complicated childbirth on November 9, 1984. After 17 hours of nonproductive labor, the decision was made for a C-section. Before surgery could begin, she went into shock and stopped breathing. She told the anesthesiologist she couldn't hold on any longer and then surrendered, letting go completely.
She found herself high above everything, accompanied by an entity whose face she couldn't see. The light was beyond comprehension, described as pure love unlike anything experienced on earth. All earthly concerns were gone and replaced with a wonderful sense of being. The light was everything - representing love in its purest form. She felt she was there for a long time, though only minutes passed in earth time. There was no sense of time in that realm. Despite trying to go deeper into the light, she was held back. A presence told her she had to return because it wasn't her time and she had more work to do. She protested, saying she didn't want to go back, but a force like a huge hand pushed her back into her body. She abruptly awakened to a nurse on top of her performing CPR, screaming at her to breathe. After the experience, she was initially upset about having to return but understood why. The experience led to a lifelong search into different religions and beliefs. She gained a deeper understanding of God as creator and the Truth of the Bible. She cannot dwell too much in the memory of that light or she cannot be happy in this life, so she stays the course, seeking knowledge and doing the work she needs to do until she can return to that place of pure love.
