Mike experienced chest pains and called an ambulance. His heart stopped in the ambulance, leading to 24 minutes without a heartbeat and 45 minutes of CPR. After receiving stents, he remained in a coma for 10 days. During this time, his consciousness was transported to the edge of the universe where he could see all of creation. He could see all planets and stars, with any object coming to the foreground when he focused on it. Throughout, he felt incredible, indescribable love and was aware he was both part of everything and still his individual self - both observer and observed. He encountered his firstborn son who had died in infancy but appeared as an adult. He saw yellow and orange zebra-like horses. He emerged from the coma to Bob Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door." Afterward, he continued seeing beings others couldn't see, including an old man drinking beer that only his 3-year-old grandson could also see. He experienced consciousness as still separate from his body while driving. The experience eliminated his fear of death completely and made him extremely sensitive to others.
