Pam T attempted suicide at age 15 while at boarding school in West Germany in 1970. Her father was a British soldier and she was struggling emotionally. After taking a whole bottle of drugs, she remembers nothing until finding herself in sick bay. During the experience, she was going toward a very bright light with an overwhelming feeling of pure, unjudging, all-encompassing love. It was wonderful and unlike anything she had experienced before. She then woke up feeling like someone had pressed her body back onto the mattress, with the mattress springing back as though she had been released from above. She was left with the distinct feeling that she had caused hurt and sadness to someone or something, and must never attempt suicide again because she had to live her life. The experience left her with no fear of dying and she has never forgotten any of it. Pam comes from a family of atheists and still identifies as atheist, but acknowledges there is "something" beyond death, describing the light as pure and bright but not burning her eyes, unlike sunshine. She experienced unconditional love for the first time - a love without conditions based on appearance, generosity, or any earthly reason. The sadness and disappointment of whoever sent her back made her understand she should never try to end her life again. Since then, she has occasionally dreamed of that same overwhelming love during difficult times, waking with optimism and strength to continue.
