Ten-year-old Klaus was hit by a VW Beetle while crossing a highway on his bicycle in 1974. He immediately found himself several meters above the road without experiencing the crash impact. From above, he could see through the car, engine cover, and engine. He observed his feet sticking out from under the car and watched as a desperate young man pulled his body out. Once his body was completely pulled out, he suddenly returned to it. To everyone's surprise, he got up with only scratches and no fractures. During the experience, he felt no emotions and was an uninvolved observer. He kept the experience private for many years, feeling it was normal and self-evident at the time. Now Buddhist, he attributes his spiritual path partly to this and other spiritual experiences throughout his life.
