In February 1998, Guy died three times from pneumonia in the ICU. He describes simply: "I died." He was aware of medical staff trying to save him before slipping away to somewhere better. Death was not bad - Jesus was really there.
Guy found himself with Jesus looking over the edge of a pit, observing where hell was. It reminded him of childhood, looking over a bridge edge to water below - not scary, just looking. Jesus put His arm around him with real love. Guy felt they might have been looking back at earth. He experienced freedom with God and intense sadness upon return to his trapped body. Jesus was kind, warm, gentle, loving and caring, receiving him with genuine affection. Guy emphasizes Jesus is REAL - he always believed before but now can promise His reality. The experience was warm, friendly, with God present where all was well. Guy went through a barrier (not a tunnel) from "here" to "there" and preferred it there. He was sent back against his will, being told living is the hard part while being with God is the good part. Guy feels foreign to this world now, with nothing previously important retaining significance. He experiences deep disconnection from earthly life. His family dismisses the experience as medication-induced, but he knows he was really there with Jesus.
