Andrew was working on a TV production when he experienced stroke-like symptoms followed by a Type II DeBakey Aortic Dissection. After feeling extreme chest pain like someone tearing his insides apart, he was initially misdiagnosed with a panic attack at the first hospital. After 4 hours and a CT scan revealing the dissection, he was helicoptered to another facility. During the helicopter ride, he experienced a complete OBE, watching the helicopter from 100 feet away behind and above the tail in a peaceful, content state with yellow-tinted vision. In surgery, he underwent deep hypothermic metabolic stasis with confirmed cerebral silence for 39 minutes. During this clinical death, he found himself in a space of perfect peace and contentment, surrounded like being underwater but with no light or sound initially. He sensed deceased family members including grandparents and felt pure consciousness. His grandmother told him he had more to do and wasn't meant to stay yet. The experience was characterized by understanding everything as common sense and feeling united with all existence. He reluctantly returned to his body and woke 26 hours later. Post-experience, he had demonic nightmares for months until receiving prayer, lost all fear of death, and gained increased empathic abilities.
