Amanda was undergoing a tubal ligation procedure when she had a severe reaction to epidural anesthesia. The anesthetist accidentally punctured the inner casing fluid within her spine, causing the epidural to spread throughout her entire body rather than just the lower half. Her blood sugar and blood pressure crashed simultaneously, leading to paralysis and respiratory arrest. She experienced floating above the operating table, observing the medical team's frantic efforts to save her. CPR was administered for approximately three minutes while she watched calmly from above. During her OBE, she saw a white light in the corner of the room that grew brighter and larger, with a being approaching her. She then observed her husband pacing in the waiting room and felt he needed her. The being guided her back to the operating room and toward a bright tunnel, but Amanda refused to enter, stating her husband and baby needed her. She consciously chose to re-enter her body and began breathing on her own. The experience was characterized by total peace despite the medical chaos. She was kept for monitoring overnight and experienced complications requiring additional surgery a week later. Despite the traumatic medical events, Amanda remembers the NDE portion as entirely pleasant and peaceful.
