At age 5, Ray was stung by a black wasp while cleaning up a destroyed dollhouse in the backyard. He was allergic to wasp venom and went into anaphylactic shock, causing his body to swell like the Michelin Tire Boy. His godfather and mother rushed him to the hospital in a police car with sirens. He died several times on the way and at the hospital. During his NDE, he found himself in darkness with a spotlight above, then was scooped up by a gray-black twister with no sound. Inside the twister were voices giving him instructions through thoughts. He traveled through darkness seeing spots of light, approaching one where children his age were playing with puppies. A little girl offered him a puppy but the twister moved him away before he could take it. The experience felt peaceful and fun to his 5-year-old mind. After recovering, paranormal activity began in their house including voices, objects moving, and foul odors. Ray believes his NDE opened a corridor between the living and afterlife worlds.
