Barney experienced cardiac arrest during a heart stress test when contrast solution was administered. He felt nauseous, dizzy, and had difficulty breathing before losing consciousness. The nurses tried to lift his legs but he couldn't respond. He said the Jewish prayer Shema multiple times. During his cardiac arrest requiring CPR, he heard loud voices screaming numbers, then experienced moving through a tunnel toward a warm, bright light with multiple rings. The light resembled galaxies with darker outer rings and brighter inner rings. He saw his daughters' names floating in the brightest part of the light, which brought him profound peace and joy. He heard Hebrew words being spoken but couldn't understand their meaning. The experience ended when he was moved to a stretcher and ambulance. The experience strengthened his Jewish faith and made him feel he must live meaningfully, with no time for anger. He believes the light may have been God's Shechinah (divine presence). Since the experience, he feels called to make every minute valuable.
