Ashley was at her grandmother's house watching TV when she experienced a heart attack that led to cardiac arrest. She died for over 4 minutes according to hospital staff. During this time, she had an out-of-body experience where she found herself back home in Virginia with both deceased and living relatives. She felt overwhelming love and peace, seeing some non-human beings observing them. She didn't experience the typical tunnel or bright light that many report. When she returned to her body, she woke up in the hospital where medical staff informed her that her heart had stopped. The experience felt like it lasted much longer than the 4 minutes of clinical death. She saw her deceased grandfather who communicated with her about his feelings. The experience left her with a heightened awareness and the belief that she can now sense when things are going to happen. She remains atheist but knows there is an afterlife where loved ones continue to exist.
