At age 6, Stefan was having his tonsils removed under general anesthesia. He counted backwards from 10 and fell asleep around 6 or 7. During the surgery, he initially thought he was dreaming when he woke up and saw three doctors very busy working on him. He was viewing the scene from high up in the room, floating above his body which was still lying on the table. He noticed a circular portal of light in a corner behind him and felt an emotional pull to enter it.
Upon entering the portal, Stefan was greeted by a young boy his age who introduced himself as his father's grandfather. The boy said Stefan was allowed into heaven and could come with him. When Stefan questioned his youthful appearance for a grandfather, the being transformed into an old man to make him comfortable. They walked together in a completely white space with no walls, floor, or ceiling. In the distance, Stefan saw a large white wall with radiant white light emanating from behind it in a circular shape larger than the wall itself. As they approached, Stefan could feel the light as pure, overwhelming love that made him cry with joy. He felt completely accepted regardless of deeds or wrongdoings. He saw two people on the other side of the wall facing the light source - one standing calmly and another strong bearded man kneeling and crying before the light. When asked why he wanted to return, Stefan explained his parents would be sad, he had friends and a whole life ahead. His great-grandfather agreed he should go back. Stefan then woke on the surgery table with a surgeon saying "Well, you gave us a good scare, but we managed to get you back." The experience profoundly shaped Stefan's life. He describes himself as radiating calmness to good people while sometimes agitating those with evil intentions. He experienced prophetic dreams showing glimpses of his future that later came true exactly as shown. In his forties during depression, a being of energy appeared and helped heal him over several months. He no longer practices organized religion but maintains belief in God and feels called to help people.
