Susan experienced three NDEs, with the first occurring on October 16, 1998, during severe pregnancy complications. She suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum throughout her first trimester, experiencing debilitating nausea and vomiting that left her weighing only 95 pounds at 13 weeks pregnant. During a medical appointment, she collapsed on her doctor's desk and experienced clinical death with no pulse or heartbeat detectable by Dr. Im, who said multiple times "We are losing her."
During her NDE, Susan walked uphill on soft green grass in bright daylight alongside a huge person whose shadow encompassed her in a circle. She recognized being in Heaven in the Shadow of the Almighty from Psalm 91. They communicated through wordless thought transfer. She was led to a meadow with extraordinary colors of green with more yellow than seen on earth. Under a giant tree, she observed about a dozen children aged 2-8 playing in a circle, moving counter-clockwise while holding hands. She was particularly drawn to a little girl in a pale green dress who stumbled and was gently helped up by a teenage girl. Susan spent what felt like two days conversing with God in a white realm after He saved her from an initial descent. God told her who had placed drugs in her drink (relating to the medical crisis), explained he would repair her body, and instructed her to pursue education until He told her to stop. The voice commanding her return was soft but carried absolute authority. Her husband confirmed she was unconscious for about three minutes while Dr. Im worked to revive her. After returning, Susan was completely healed of hyperemesis gravidarum and never vomited again during pregnancy. She also received healing from a heart murmur. Years later, she realized the little girl in the green dress she saw in heaven was her unborn daughter, wearing the exact same style dress she would later receive as a gift. Susan went on to complete three degrees as instructed and now shares her testimony through books and television.
