During Judo practice at BoSung high school in Seoul, 1971, a first-year student was practicing with classmates when a friend applied a chokehold during a game. Not wanting to surrender, the student endured the hold and subsequently fainted from lack of oxygen to the brain.
Upon losing consciousness, the student felt very good initially. After a few minutes, extreme brightness prevented opening eyes, with everything appearing white. Once adapted to the light, the student found himself floating above the playground, not on the ground but in the air, looking down. The playground appeared extraordinarily bright and filled with light all around. There was complete silence with no one present. The student felt perplexed, wondering about getting in trouble for missing class and whether to go home. The experience ended abruptly when the student felt terrible and found friends slapping his cheeks to wake him. Embarrassed, he quickly got up and went to rest in a corner of the playground.
