On April 12, 2015, Amy was violently attacked by her husband's ex-wife. The attacker, much larger than Amy (6 feet tall, 180 pounds versus Amy's 5'4" 115 pounds), strangled her for nearly 2 minutes and bashed her skull against a car and cement floor. This was a life-threatening assault resulting in non-fatal strangulation with multiple head trauma and spinal injury.
During the strangulation, Amy left her body and found herself walking down a damp, dark tunnel looking confused. She moved toward light and away from darkness through the tunnel. She then heard "AMY, AMY, AMY" and turned away from the light back to the darkness, returning to her body. Her husband was yelling her name repeatedly. A remarkable verification occurred: both Amy and her husband clearly remember him yelling "AMY AMY AMY" three times, which brought her back. However, they had been recording the conversation for co-parenting documentation purposes and captured the entire attack on audio. When they reviewed the recording, nowhere on it does her husband yell her name, despite both having vivid memories of this occurring. This suggests Amy heard him calling her on a non-physical level while out of body. After returning, Amy felt like she didn't fit in her body properly for months, like wearing shoes that were too tight. She experienced lasting peace and calm despite the violent nature of the event. She gained a different outlook on what happens after death, knowing that she simply walked away from her body as if nothing had happened. She misses the feeling of pure bliss, peace, and calm from the experience.
