In May 2001, John and his cousins were playing in a hay barn attic. While running around in circles, he fell 15 feet through a hole and landed flat on his back on the concrete floor below. The fall was severe enough to cause unconsciousness and potentially life-threatening injuries. His cousins reported the entire incident happened in seconds, but to John it felt like half an hour.
Immediately after landing, John recalls floating above himself and seeing his body lying on the concrete. He had a clear out-of-body experience where he could observe himself from an elevated perspective. The environment then became super bright with clouds, followed by darkness before he regained consciousness. During the experience, he described being in a peaceful state with no sound and filled with blindingly bright light. He vividly remembers seeing himself from above his body. The experience felt like it lasted much longer than the actual time that passed. When he came to, he could stand up perfectly but felt like he weighed a million pounds and could barely walk. The experience left a lasting impression on John. He describes the out-of-body state as peaceful and filled with bright light that was blinding in intensity. Though the physical event lasted only seconds according to witnesses, his subjective experience felt extended in time. He has never shared this experience publicly before submitting this account.
